🎬 PREDICTOM launches video series exploring the future of early dementia detection
What if Alzheimer's disease could be detected years before symptoms appear? In a newly launched nine-part video series "Predicting Dementia Before It Starts", experts from across PREDICTOM explore how advances in biomarkers, artificial intelligence, brain imaging and digital technologies, and patient involvement could enable earlier and more accurate detection of Alzheimer's disease.
About the series
Featuring researchers, clinicians, industry experts, technology developers, project managers, and patient and public representatives, the series explores the scientific, clinical and societal challenges that drive the project, while introducing the people and organisations working to address them.
Across nine episodes, experts cover topics such as the importance of early diagnosis, the role of biomarkers and advanced brain scans, the use of artificial intelligence to identify risk patterns, home-based screening approaches, the importance of patient and public involement, and the collaborative effort required to deliver impact at a European scale.
The video series also highlights the project's unique multidisciplinary nature. PREDICTOM brings together thirty partners from academia, healthcare, industry and patient organisations across Europe, all working towards a shared goal: predicting dementia before it starts.
Produced by Lygature's communications team, in collaboration with consortium partners, the series features expert interviews and footage from research laboratories, clinical and MedTech environments and real-world examples that highlight PREDICTOM's innovative approach.
Series OverviewÂ
Episode 1 – Why Early Diagnosis MattersÂ
Featuring: Dag Aarsland (Stavanger University Hospital & King's College London) and Peter Johannsen (Novo Nordisk)Â
Why are we still diagnosing Alzheimer's disease so late? This opening episode explores the human impact of late diagnosis and how earlier detection could create valuable time for patients, families and healthcare professionals.Â
Episode 2 – Biofluid Biomarkers: Can Alzheimer's Be Detected with a Simple Sample?Â
Featuring: Gaby Marquardt, Johanna Mitterreiter and Verena Pikulski (Siemens Healthineers)Â
How can blood and saliva samples reveal the earliest biological signs of disease? This episode explores how biofluid biomarkers may help make dementia screening more accessible, scalable and accurate.Â
Episode 3 – Digital Biomarkers: Detecting Alzheimer's in Everyday LifeÂ
Featuring: Spiros Nikolopoulos, Margarita Grammatikopoulou and Ioulietta Lazarou (CERTH)Â
Can everyday interactions with technology reveal subtle signs of cognitive decline? Discover how smartphones, apps and digital tools may support earlier detection outside traditional clinical settings.
